Another flash of light, and they were standing in the ruins of a building. "Damnit! I must have entered the wrong coordinates again!" Derek fumed. Ausin clambered out of the rubble and his jaw dropped. "Actually Derek, you're kind of right this time." "Kind of right? What are you-" As Derek emerged from the hole, he too was shocked at what he saw. The crowd of zombies was surprising enough, but in the midst of them, was...them! 15 year old Jake, Amy, Mcnabb, Bishop, Calvin, Casey, Reaper, Scythe, and of course, 20 year old Derek. "Oh my god...I've taken us back to 2008 when we..." "Wait where's Nick and I?" "You two don't come in until later, now shut up and let me think!" Derek's mind was racing. Jake was evil. Mcnabb, Bishop, Reaper, and Scythe were going to die, and...so was he... "Hey I just realized something!" Austin exclaimed. "As long as we're here and we know what's going to happen, can't we save them?" "No." Derek replied. "What? Why not?" "Because, we can't interfere with the past!" "But how can something negative come from saving people's lives?" "Just trust me." Derek finished with the device just as the giant Hayes smashed out of his building. "Come on!" Derek shouted. "We've got to get out of here before we merge with our past selves!" "Before we what?" Austin asked, puzzled. "If we stay too long our DNA syncs with the DNA of our past selves and we become one! If that happens, things may not play out the same way as-" Then, Derek vanished. "D?" Austin spun around. "Derek? DEREK!"
Derek felt a sudden head rush as old memories flooded back into his head. He staggered back and almost fell, but Bishop caught him and pulled him away with the others. Then Derek remembered what was about to happen to him. "Bish, look out!" Bishop looked up and narrowly dodged the monsters teeth as Derek rolled the other way. "Woah...thanks man. You saved my life!" There was a scream as they saw what the monster had got instead: Casey was clutched in its jaws and was soon ripped to shreds. "NOOOOOOO!!!!!!" They shouted.
Derek suddenly felt a haze in the air as he was lifted from his body. He had the odd feeling of being compressed through a vaccum, then he was on solid ground. Austin was standing next to him, holding the device. "Holy shit! It worked!" He exclaimed. "What have I done?" Derek mumbled as he sunk to his knees. "I saw you save Bishop man. Sucks about Casey though." "NO!" Derek suddenly lept up and grabbed the front of Austin's shirt. "Don't you see? Hayes was supposed to kill Bishop and Casey was supposed to survive! He was supposed to marry Amy! He was supposed to impregnate Amy with me! He was supposed to build New Washington! Don't you see what this means?" "Um..." Austin replied. "It means that if we dont go back and save Casey, than I won't-"
All of a sudden, a bright blue wave enveloped the planet, wiping all signs of Casey (and anything to do with him) of the face of the Earth. The huge dome of New Washington was erased and replaced with a heavily guarded military base, the outside crawling with zombies. And Austin was teleported to where he would have been if Derek had never interfered: on Amy's sofa...with Amy...and their daughter Beth. It was as if Casey, and Derek, had never existed.

Infection-A New Beginning: Part I
The man driving the stagecoach wrapped his shawl tighter around him against the cold night air. His caravan needed to get to the village, or the half dozen sick and freezing people on board would die. He had made the journey many times before, but never before had it seemed so urgent. Just as he saw the village over the ridge, a bright blue light flashed in front of him, causing the horses to rear up and throw the driver off the stagecoach. He struck his head against a rock and went limp. As the stagecoach flew by, pulled by the crazed horses, the groggy passengers just began to notice two men that had suddenly appeared next to them. One looked to be in his 50's the other, late 20's. "Did we make it back to New Washington?" the younger one asked. "I don't think so." the older one replied. "Unless you remember stagecoaches drawn by horses in the year 2015." The passengers merely grunted and went back to sleep. "Um, Derek?" the younger one asked. "If were not in 2015, then where are we?" Derek never had a chance to reply, as the carridge was flung forward away from the horses, rolling down a ravine, and finally coming to a stop at the bottom. The two strange men were the only ones that climbed out of the wreckage. "Shouldn't we help these people?" "There's no time Austin." The man replied. "Besides, we have to get out of here before we do something that completely destroyes the future!" Derek punched some numbers into the device in his hand and they dissapeared in another flash of blue light.

Chapter 57
Chapter 57: Jen finally tumbled out of the door to the sewage treatment plant and looked around. She hadn't really gotten a chance to look around the dome yet, even though she'd been there for years. She headed downtown, searching for anyone that might spark a memory in her.
Meanwhile, about 40 years in the future, the sky was darkening to an unnatural blackness. The whirlpool swirled overhead, and Derek was rushing down the street, hoping he could get to Austin before-But there was a sudden horrible cracking noise. Derek looked up at the dome that had sheilded them for almost 50 years and saw the crack run down the edges. Outside, the zombies pounded on the glass. They hadn't been seen for a while, and were thought extinct, but apparently they were just waiting for the right moment. Paniced people ran through the streets, and huge chunks of the dome were raining down on the city like meteorites. Suddenly, Derek saw Austin run past him. Derek grabbed his shoulder. "Oh thanks god! It's you! Listen, Beth and Joseph went to the market a few minutes ago! We have to find them and-" "No Austin, there are much more important things to be done. I never should have taken you from the past. You need to go back." "Back? But I have a family here!" "You won't for long." And Derek was right. He and Austin took cover in an alley while the remains of the dome shattered and collapsed onto the city and the zombies, finally freed, rushed in for a long awaited meal.
Amy didn't realize she had fallen asleep untill Calvin shook her awake. "Amy, I know your still trying to deal with what happened, but I think Nick's in trouble and-" "You think I care what happens to that son of a bitch? He's the reason my family's gone!" Amy shouted, tears running down her face. "Listen Amy, I'm sorry, I really am. But Nick didn't want this to happen to you! He's confused now! I think he had amnesia or something. If he goes out there, he could get hurt!" Amy considered for a moment, then turned Calvin away. "Get out of my room! I hope that asshole drops dead!" She slammed the door, leaving Calvin standing there. "I guess that only leaves me...hang on Nick, I'm coming!"

Chapter 56
Chapter 56: The man who had taken care of Derek for years woke up to quite a shock. The sky was a purpleish color, and blue lighting struck around the city. There also seemed to be a whirlpool in the sky above, and the wind was picking up. "No...it can't be...I have to get Derek back now! I can't let this happen again!" He opened a desk drawer and stuffed a letter he had received years ago into the boy's pocket and rushed him out. "Where are we going daddy?" Derek asked the man. "We're going on a little trip." He set the time machine and set it for the year 1995, 13 years before the infection had broken out. He kissed the boys forehead and injected a serum into the boys arm. He passed out, and soon, his memory was reset to what he the man wanted it to be. He set the timer and stepped back. The ball of electricity surrounded him and Derek vanished. "I hope you do a better job of saving them then I did." The man, the original Derek, pulled his hood off and a single tear slid down his cheek. His hand started to flicker. "It's almost time. I hope I didn't send my past self back too early." Then, something came to him. "Austin! I knew it was a mistake bringing him back here!" He bolted down the street. "I hope I'm not too late!"
"What do you think Nick?" Jake asked as they reached the familiar med lab. Nick suddenly knew why he had lured him down here. "Wait, you're the one that did this to me! No! Get away-" But Jake grabbed him and threw him against the wall. "I just need to finish tinkering with your mind Nick. This'll be over in a second..."
Jen gasped and sputtered as she pulled herself onto the solid concrete pathway. The sewer water had finally done it. It had permanantly snapped her out of her murderous rampage and destroyed Jake's control over her. But her freedom had cost someone his life. She didn't know the man, but she felt bad. A good sign that her emotions were coming back to her. She had to get out of here and find her friends. Derek...he was all she had left...she didn't know how long it had been, but she headed down a nearby tunnel, hoping it would lead her home.

Chapter 55
Chapter 55: It took a few months, but Austin finally readjusted to life in the future. He soon met a girl named Beth, and they quickly hit it off. Soon, they were engaged, and after 2 years of being married, they had a child named Joeseph. The effect of time travel causes the traveler to slowly lose memory of having been to a different time period. That's exactly what happened to Austin. He didn't remember Nick or Amy or Derek or anything from the years he had been in the past. All he knew now was his family.
It had been almost four years since Austin and Derek had come to the future, and Derek was now a 7 year old boy. He was very playful, and after a little brain tapping, he had completely forgotten about his previous life. This was nessecary for the plan to carry out. He couldn't have Derek holding back at all. The man who had taken care of Derek like his own was almost ready for the final part of his plan to commence. He sighed and looked at the face of the boy. He knew what was going to happen too him, and the thought of it almost made him cry. Almost.
"Are you okay Nick?" Calvin asked. "Wait...you know me too?" "Seriously, what is wrong with you?" Calvin got up and put a hand on Nick's forhead, which he quickly brushed away. "What the hell is wrong with you? Don't touch me!" "Nick I'm trying to-" "Hey, just back off okay?" Nick opened the front door and walked out, slamming it shut behind him.
Nick wandered the streets for some time before he was approached by a large man that smelled strongly of sewage. "Um, can I help you?" Nick asked. "Nick, I know what your going through. Come with me and I can make it all better." "Thanks but no thanks. I think I can figure this out on my own." The man stepped in front of him. "Please, I insist." The guy looked serious, so Nick followed him to the manhole cover in the street. "Um...can I at least know your name?" "My name?" the man replied. "Sure. It's Jake, but you can just call me, the Master." The Master? This guy had some serious issues. Whatever the case, Nick felt he had to follow him to find out who he really was.

Chapter 54
Chapter 54: Calvin limped down the narrow walk alongside the sewer tunnel. He couldn't believe what had happened. Casey was dead. How would he tell Amy? He finally reached the end of the tunnel, in the room where he and Casey were attacked by Jake only a few minutes earlier. Now it seemed like ages. He slowly ascended the ladder up to the surface, pushing aside the manhole cover and rising into the sunlight.
Amy and Nick searched the dome for hours, with no sign of Calvin, Casey, or Derek. Amy was in tears, and soon, they stopped the search for the night. They had enlisted the help of the same police force that had found Austin, and they assured her that they would search all night and call her at any sign of her family. They finally arrived home to see Calvin asleep on the couch. He woke up when the door slammed shut and he was immedeately embraced by Amy, but she quickly pulled back. "Calvin, you stink! It smells like you've been wallowing around in the sewers!" "I have." he replied. He quickly recounted the story of what had happened down there. "So it was Jake all along..." Amy said after he had finished. "Wait, do you know where my husband or my son is?" Calvin hung his head. "Amy...I'm sorry...we ran into that murderer down there and she...killed Casey." Amy couldn't believe it. Her husband was dead. She broke down and ran into her bedroom, slamming the door behind her. Once she was gone, Calvin turned to Nick. "Say, where's your brother?" "Brother?" Nick replied. "I have a brother?"
